Josie was a feminist activist who made a difference to the lives of women living in New South Wales' Hunter Valley District for over thirty years. Best known for her long term involvement in the Right to Choose Abortion Coalition, she was active in the Women's Electoral Lobby, the Hunter Valley Home-Birth Group, Women's Action against Global Violence, the Union of Australian Women, Jobs for Women and the Women's Action Group. Reference: Website of The Australian Women's Register: Josephine Conway, 1920-2007; accessed 13.5.15. This collection reflects Josie's practical political activism and social engagement with many issues affecting the lives of Australian women. 'This was a woman who made an art form of persistence. She was radical to the end. “Don’t Ever Give Up” was on one of her handouts. Till her dying days politicians and community leaders still received regular missives.'
