In the traditional world of Sydney's legal establishment, no family sits higher than the Streets. For three successive generations, the men of this family have reigned as Chief Justices of New South Wales. They have been loyal defenders of law and the crown for over a century. But this family also included one of Australia's most redoubtable suffragettes. Jessie Street was the daughter-in-law, wife and mother of Chief Justices, yet remained a proud socialist and supporter of the Soviet Union.
